Dark Water Rising: The Truth About Hurricane Katrina Animal Rescues [11 Jul 2006|01:37am]
Hello all,

This ground-breaking new film is a must-see to find out what really happened in New Orleans in the wake of the hurricanes. The media pulled up stakes after covering the human drama, but neglected to tell the animal story. This harrowing tale shows the bravery of a small band of rescuers who set out to save as many animal lives as possible. A note from the filmmaker follows, with a link to the film's trailer.

Very best,

Kim Upham

Greetings from Mike Shiley!

I am pleased to announce a private DVD release and pre-theatrical sale of DARK WATER RISING: The Truth about Hurricane Katrina Animal Rescues. This is the only documentary film made about animal rescues of Hurricane Katrina.

Over 50,000 dogs and cats were left behind in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The pets (mostly dogs) that survived the flood were locked in houses and chained to fences without food and water for up to six weeks.

A small group of brave rescuers from around the world risked their lives to sledgehammer down doors, brave toxic floodwaters and dodge corrupt cops in a race against time to rescue up to 10,000 trapped and starving animals.

Some rescuers worked with the official rescue organization, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), while others joined a more aggressive rescue outfit, code named Winn Dixie.

This film also tells uplifting stories of hope and survival as pets are reunited with their owners while other lucky pets find loving new homes.

These hard earned lessons will help our nation understand the need for animal evacuation plans in natural disasters.

Join me for a behind-the-scenes look at the grim reality of the life and death struggles on the toxic streets of New Orleans.

You may already know me from my other documentary film called, INSIDE IRAQ: THE UNTOLD STORIES (www.InsideIraqTheMovie.com).

I am offering you a one-time opportunity to own the DVD before its theatrical release.

Wow! [20 Jan 2006|04:43pm]

Hello to everyone out there -- I'm surprised that this community actually attracted members! I'm sorry I didn't answer your comments on the initial post -- my email wasn't working with this account for a long time, and my password got corrupted, all of which took a long time to fix.

But I have some exciting news!

The coolpets community now has a sponsor, GoPets.net! Most communities do just fine without sponsors, but the deal with ours is that we will be able to give out one $10 gift certificate to the pet-related online vendor of our choice every month! And then, once a year, pick a favorite from the twelve monthly winners and do an annual gift that's even bigger!

So what I'm thinking is that we will get this kicked off in January with what little time is left. It will be all democratic, and open to pets of all kinds! Profiles will go up, and we'll vote at the end of the month, and in the first week in February we'll give out the first gift certificate.

What do you think? And can you help me get the word out? =)

There's a new cat community up called felinebehavior. It's a place to discuss your cat's strange behavior, be it curious, smart, comical, or just plain odd. Ask questions and discuss those unique feline behaviors that aren't necessarily problems, but get our attention.

I made this community because I've been part of a forum of the same nature that just seems to be dead now. I really enjoyed hearing about all these different cats' cute or quirky ways. I hope you'll all join and share your cats' with everyone. We can discuss solutions, laugh about the cute nature of your cat, or be there to support each other in those troubled times.
